COPS PIN RAP ON BATMAN - 1992 New York Post Newspaper

Here's a random Batman item I came across on eBay awhile back that I thought was pretty cool. Well, "cool" because it's kinda weird, ha ha! This was the actual cover to a NEW YORK POST Newspaper dated Thursday, June 18th, 1992. It was around the time of the '92 BATMAN RETURNS Movie by Tim Burton. In fact, the photo on the cover is of the Actor who played the Caped Crusader, Michael Keaton. But, the story really had nothing to do with him. It was mainly about how a New York State Sheriff Group was urging a boycott on all films made by Time Warner Inc. because they were the media giant also responsible for publishing a rap song by rapper Ice-T titled "COP KILLER". The name of the album was called "Body Count" & they wanted it removed from store shelves. OK, I remember all this mess. It got really blown-up for awhile. Now listen, I'm presenting this story as an unusual piece of Bat-History & I don't want to hear a bunch of bigoted opinions about Rap music, thank you. I just think this vintage newspaper cover is kinda fun.

Original Movie Prop Design - Catwoman's Claws From BATMAN RETURNS Movie.

Check out this amazing photo! These are the original glove pieces for Michelle Pfeiffer's CATWOMAN costume from the 1992 BATMAN RETURNS movie, her "Claws". They were created by a Movie Prop Designer named Scott Schneider and I think it's really interesting to see these sort of things. Most of the time they are very well designed. Also, Scott has a website where you can see some of his other creations. Plus, there are also many more photos ( with great details ) of these Catwoman Gloves. You can get there by clicking HERE!

1992 BATMAN RETURNS Movie - McDonalds HAPPY MEAL TOYS TV Commercial

Here's a very RARE video clip of an older TV Commercial for the 1992 BATMAN RETURNS movie Happy Meal Toys at McDonalds. But, I gotta say, that I don't remember these "Batman Neck Pens" as a premium. What's the deal here?! Were these made for the foreign market? And if so, then from where? It shows 4 different pens to collect: Batman, Catwoman, The Penguin, & even the Batmobile Car! Well, I guess that these are now officially on my wish list. But that's cool, there's always something new to hunt for!

1992 BATMAN RETURNS Movie - Super Nintendo NES Video Game

The other day I came across this advertisement from an old comic book. It's for the 1992 BATMAN RETURNS MOVIE Video Game for the Super Nintendo System. I thought it was a neat piece of bat-history & worthy of posting. The artwork is pretty cool & I like that it features the Batmobile Car, Catwoman, & The Penguin ( click on it for a larger version ). I know it will bring back a lot of fond memories for some readers who grew-up playing this game. So, while doing this post, I thought it would be a good idea to find a video of the actual game play. That way people could relive their glory days & also people who have never seen this game in action would get a good idea what it actually looked like back then. Oh man, the graphics are so extremely cheesy! If you have played the recent BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM game then you know just how far video game graphics have advanced...it's crazy! Please watch the video & then comment about some of your stories, thanks.

Custom BATMAN RETURNS Movie CATWOMAN & PENGUIN SCULPTURE!

Right now there's a big buzz on eBay. No, Warner Bros has not posted Christian Bale's original bat-suit from The Dark Knight movie. No, George Barris isn't selling off all of his original 1966 Batmobile Cars. No, the big news is that there is an artist in France who made this BATMAN RETURNS MOVIE-INSPIRED DIORAMA MODEL SCULPTURE! It's crazy, I have got a ton of emails about this thing about this with a lot of people asking, "Have you seen this? It's amazing!". An Artist named "ivy-topp" has created a scene right out of the 1992 Tim Burton BATMAN RETURNS movie. It's the moment when Catwoman ( Michelle Pfeiffer ) & The Penguin ( Danny Devito ) are in bed talking in her hotel room. The resemblance is uncanny! The details are totally crazy! The Artist made the figures, the bed, the lamps, the wall / floor, window blinds, etc...even a birdcage with a small bird! This thing is extremely cool! For more information be sure to check it out online right HERE!

THE PENGUIN Vinyl Model Kit BATMAN RETURNS ( 1992 Movie )

I just realized last night that I have not featured one of these wonderful Model kits in awhile so here we GO! Shown here, for your viewing pleasure, is this extremely beautiful Vinyl Model Kit of THE PENGUIN made by our good friend SKINNYBIRD. Of course it's the "Danny DeVito version" from Tim Burton's Classic 1992 Film BATMAN RETURNS. One photo is a full-body shot where you see the whole thing but the magic really happens in the other photo that is a close-up of the character's face. I think he did an amazing job on the painting of the face. Actually, the whole thing is painted extremely well, but with these kind of model kits of actual real-life people you really gotta do a good job on the face or they just don't work. This one does, looks just like the actor...NICE! If you're new to the Bat-Blog then I guess I need to explain that we have been posting a few of these Batman Models every now & then. A Good Friend to the Bat-Blog, nicknamed "Skinnybird", sent us some great pics awhile back of all the Batman Model kits he has built. To view all the ones posted so far just look down below this post for the LABEL word "Skinnybird" & click on that. It will open all the posts related to his artwork. Last, but not least, I wanna thank Skinnybird for sending these & invite all other creative readers to do the same! Your pics don't have to be models but can be any kind of Batman-related thing, thanks!

New BATMAN HOT WHEELS Vehicles & Batmobile Cars For 2010!!

For the last year or so I have been totally & completely loving the incredible 1:50 Scale Die-Cast Batman Vehicles & Batmobiles that Mattel has been coming out with. Here are some photos from the Official Hot Wheels Collector website of a few cars to keep an eye out for in 2010. The 1st photo is probably the weirdest one, but it's also a Classic Car that many Bat-Fans are gonna really love. It's the "Penguinmobile" from the 1966 TV Show! The next one, of course, is the Batcycle from the 1997 movie. In fact, all the rest shown are from various Batman movies. The 3rd one is the famous Bat-Missile from 1992's "Batman Returns". The 4th one is the "Cocoon Batmobile" from 1989. The 5th Car is from 1997's "Batman & Robin" & then there is the one from "Batman Forever". The last pic shows the Bat-Boat!!

BATMAN RETURNS 1992 Movie Vinyl Model Kit: PENGUIN COMMANDOS!

Remember the PENGUIN COMMANDOS in the 1992 BATMAN RETURNS movie? I always thought they were extremely cheesy but, also, I do have to admit that they do look kinda cool! These were the animals that the Penguin ( Danny DeVito ) had brainwashed & loaded with weapons to terrorize Gotham City, ha ha! Well, Here are some amazing Vinyl Model kits of them built-up by our friend known as SKINNYBIRD. This guy is pretty talented and has great skill with painting & building models! Every now & then we feature one that he has made. Please be sure to check out the BAT-ARCHIVES for more of them! ( Thanks Skinnybird! )

BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Original Production Art - Thermos Lunch Box Company

Shown here are some rare photos from our good friend, the BATFAN. Awhile back he bought the original production art from the graphic artist who did the artwork for the BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Plastic Lunch Box. It was made by the Thermos Lunch Box Company in 1992. Some of you might have this actual item, I do. I used to be very serious about collecting lunch boxes but I only collected the embossed-metal ones from the 1960's through the 1980's. The reason, the very last metal lunch box was the one for the Rambo movie in 1987. After that they were all plastic. I remember that when I started to collect them a lot of people hated the "new plastic ones". OK, I admit that they don't have the charm or nostalgia of the embossed-metal ones but since many new collectors grew-up with them they don't know any better, ha ha! Now, as a crazy obsessed collector of "everything Batman" I have picked-up a few different plastic ones with Batman that I have come across at Garage Sales & so on. I totally love them just because they're bat-related. Sorry to go off on my stupid "Lunch Box History", ha ha, back to this amazing artwork. I have always loved & WILL always love the Animated Series. It was just such an incredible TV show & I collect ALL the great merchandise that came out of it. So for that reason it's extremely cool to me to see the original production art right here. Basically, I guess for the artist, it was just designing a HUGE sticker that went on the front of the lunch box. But the artwork is wonderful & really true to the show. I remember when this box came out & was surprised that they used The Penguin for the front & not the Joker. But there was that Danny Devito character ( Batman Returns, live-action movie ) at the time so maybe they were trying to catch on to his perceived popularity. Either way it's a great piece of Bat-memorabilia & I wanna thank BATFAN for sharing these wonderful photos. I guess I should also mention that besides the artwork shown here you can also see some unused stickers in the pics too. There's a small strip of 3 large stickers from the factory that were never used, that's really cool! On a side-note, BATFAN actually sent the original art for more lunch boxes so look for them in the future. Also, please be sure to click on the pics up above for larger, sharper, photos...they're nice! One last thing, I wanna thank BATFAN again for e-mailing these wonderful photos, I really appreciate it.

Cool Japanese Batman Toys : Past & Present

As an obsessed Batman Toy Collector I totally love the "foreign stuff". A lot of collectors do because this merchandise, even with eBay's influence, never reaches the USA that often & when you come across it it's always super-RARE. I have always loved Japan & Japanese culture so to see bat-products made there has always been a treat. Here's just a few examples: The 1st photo is one of those wind-up figures of a "Movie Version Batman". From the look of it I would guess it was made during the "Batman Returns" period. I love the goofy look of this figure, it's great! The next item, this wonderful Batmobile Toy Car, came out during the 1992 Batman Returns movie. I love the graphics of the Bat-Signal shining over the skyline of Gotham City on the original box, very cool. The 3rd pic is something that's a little older because it came out during the first 1989 Batman Movie. They really went nuts merchandising that movie & even today there's a ton of products from that era. This wacky toy is a SOUND ARM Costume Piece. It was a bat-gadget thing you wore on your arm & it made a lot of different sounds. I bet it drove parents completely crazy with the bing bing boing boing sound-action, ha ha! The last photo is something that just came out maybe a year or two ago, in other words, it's pretty new. It's a pair of Batman Snow Boots. I always love the little kid's Batman slippers & shoes...they're so cute & great for display. Plus, if you don't buy them brand-new most of the time they're kinda hard to find on the "secondary market". Mainly because children totally wear them out! The graphics on this pair are AWESOME! I guess, as a last thing to say, if ANY Bat-Blog Readers have any photos of "foreign items" ( Both new or Vintage & not just from Japan, but from anywhere ) then please send them in to us. Remember, sharing the love of collecting is what the Bat-Blog is all about!

Actor PAT HINGLE Died - He played Commissioner Gordon in the early BATMAN Movies

Actor Pat Hingle, who played Commissioner Jim Gordon in the Batman movies from 1989 through 1997, died on Saturday. He was only 84 years old. Friends of the family say he has battled heath problems the last few years. His last role was in "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" which came out in 2006. On a personal level I always liked this guy, both in the Batman movies, & many other films he did. Plus, as a regular person, he always seemed like a really cool guy. He will be missed. . . Rest in Peace. As sort of tribute I found this recent video of him talking about his life. It's titled "Pat Hingle, In His Own Words".

I AM BATMAN!! Vintage Family Photo of Kid in Batman Costume

I really really love old photos like this! When I saw this one I knew it had to be published here. This little guy is a true Batman Fan! His name is Todd & this photo was taken in 1992. He was 6 years old & look at that priceless expression on his face, he's happy! This looks like a homemade costume & those are usually the best! He told us it was made by his Grandmother & that's really special. Thanks Todd for sharing this great photo. I appreciate that & the costume is way too cool!

Original TIM BURTON BATMAN Art Sketch Done Around The Time of The BATMAN RETURNS Movie!

Here's a random photo I found the other night showing artwork by none other than Tim Burton. It shows Batman, Catwoman, & The Penguin like they appeared in his 1992 BATMAN RETURNS movie. I guess besides being a great director, Tim Burton is also a pretty decent artist. The style kinda looks like his Nightmare Before Christmas graphics...cool!
